The American Museum of natural History New York, U. S. A. American Wapiti (Cervus Canadensis) Wapiti are large members of the deer family, the bulls weighing from 700 to 1000 pounds. In their prime, their massive antlers have from five to seven points. The females have no antlers. Wapiti live in large herds in winter. The mating season is in October, and it is then that the bulls "bugle" to challenge other males to combat over the females. Hall of North American Mammals.
