Miami, Florida, is one of the very few sec-
tions of the United States where cocoanuts thrive.
They grow here easily, and are one of the char-
acteristic trees of this subtropical region. The
cocoanuts grow in clusters, the nut being inside
a thick husk. The fruit ripens continually, the
riper ones dropping off as the new fruit appears.
Miami is the only section in which cocoanuts are
grown commercially, several hundred thousand
being shipped annually.
