Additional Details:
Reading, Pa., the County Seat of Berks County, was founded by Thomas and Richard Penn, sons of Wm. Penn, in 1748, who named it for Reading, England, their former home. The region was among the first in America to produce iron and kept its supremacy in this line for over a century. Industrially Reading ranks third in Pennsylvania and is noted for the manufacture of hosiery and builders' hardware.
