| Wayne County was established by Governor Arthur St. Clair in 1796. It was the sixth county formed in the Northwest Territory and the third in Ohio. Wooster was founded in 1808 and in 1881 was made a county seat, named in honor of David Wooster, a General of the Revolutionary War. The first house built in town and in Wayne County was a log cabin on East Liberty Street. Between 1808 and 1810 a wagon road was built from Wooster to Massillon and Canton. Wooster was incorporated in 1817. |
