THE LOBBY OF THE NEWS is a source of interest and wonder to thousands of visitors daily. It cost approximately $200,000. On the floor is a gigantic compass, showing 58 principal cities and their relative distances from New York. The walls are of black glass and reach 16 four stories above. In a sunken well, illuminated from beneath, a huge globe of the world - 12 feet in diameter, weighing 2 tons - revolves slowly on an axis. Seventeen panels containing weather and meteorological instruments and charts 680 ft. from the walls. The News Lobby is open at all hours of the day and night.
