Additional Details:
Monticello, designed and built by Thomas Jefferson, is one of the most perfect examples of architecture in America. Begun in 1769, it was several years being built, as most of the materials used were made on the property—the timbers were hewn there, and the bricks and even the nails and hardware were made there. Jefferson was of an inventive turn of mind and his home contains many evidences of this, as several of the devices he contrived are in popular use today.
