The Public Gaol, Williamsburg, VA

| The Gaol was built, it is believed, soon after 1715. With the removal of the Capital to Richmond, the old gaol was given to the city of Williamsburg. 'Debtors, criminals and offenders' found that stone walls could and did make a prison in Williamsburg during the greater part of a century. |
