The world's largest sculptured historical monument, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, carved in granite. Features colossal sculptures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. The busts are 60 feet high from crown to chin. Work began in 1927 by Gutzon Borglum and was completed by his son Lincoln after Borglum's death in 1941. The memorial was financed by contributions and federal funds.
