Marble statue of Lincoln by Daniel Chester French, seated in a curule chair. The colossal figure's eyes look out through the columns to the monument and the Capitol. The lineaments are of Lincoln as idealized by the sculptor. Inscription reads: 'IN THIS TEMPLE AS IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE UNION THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN IS ENSHRINED FOREVER.'
