Tamatekapua Meeting House, Ohinemutu, Rotorua
Additional Details:
| This meeting house is still the center of community life for the Maori people of Ohinemutu. The present building was carved in 1939 by Tamatekapua Raihi, his son and four students of the Sir Apirana Ngata School of Carving. The son, Tuhaka Kapua, is still carving at Ohinemutu. The magnificent carvings of the interior are the original greenstone carvings known to be well over 150 years old. |
