| Behind Johnston Gate in Harvard Square is the oldest part of the first institution of higher learning in the United States. The building at the right is Harvard Hall (1766). University Hall (1815) is in the center and Massachusetts Hall built in 1720 is on the left. Harvard, founded in 1636, has 15,000 regular students, 10,000 special students and a faculty and staff of 16,000. |
