Additional Details:
Horizontal stripes mark the beacon located north of Oregon Inlet. Built in 1872 it is the third lighthouse to bear the name, originally called "Body's Island" supposedly for the bodies washed ashore from ship-wrecks. It is still pronounced "Body" Island.
