Additional Details:
Acoma Pueblo, known as 'Sky City,' is located 40 miles west of Albuquerque, built on a sandstone butte rising 400 feet from the surrounding plain. Inhabited since the 12th century, it is believed to be the oldest continuously inhabited town in the United States. The name comes from the Keresan Indian words ako (white rock) and ma (people). Coronado visited the pueblo in 1540, and the Spanish mission church of San Esteban de Rey dates to 1629-41. The view is looking south.
