Canyonlands National Park Needles and Spires
Additional Details:
| Colorfully banded spires of Cedar Mesa Sandstone are part of the Permian Cutler Formation. Faults and joints in the underlying formations cracked the Cedar Mesa Sandstone into a complex pattern of massive, rectangular blocks. Erosion widened many of the cracks and created a profusion of spires. Networks of interconnected passages are often found between the needles of rock. |
