| The original Tunnel drilled for the Turnpike was completed in October at a cost of $2,872,188. The new parallel tunnel 6,070 feet long was completed in 1965 cost $8,237,272. Ventilation and lighting added almost another 4 million. All costs were paid from tolls, not taxes. |
