Wren's Nest - Home of Joel Chandler Harris
Additional Details:
| In the late 1800's Joel Chandler Harris created, in dialect, his stories about Uncle Remus, Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby. Harris, a newspaper man, retold old slave stories that the slaves had told to him as a child. As you may have guessed, the name of his home comes from the story of a family of birds who set up housekeeping in Harris's mailbox and so charmed their landlord that he gave them permanent quarters. |
