| St. John's Roman Catholic Cathedral is located on Thirteenth Avenue, and its spires, rising nearly 200 feet above the pavement, are plainly visible from all parts of the city. The congregation was organized in 1852, and the present church, which is valued at $250,000, was dedicated in 1878. The seating capacity is 1,200 people. Connected with the Church is a convent, and across the street a boys' school, both taught by the Sisters and enrolling more than 600 pupils. |
