From an exterior balcony of the Caldwell House, Abraham Lincoln addressed the people of Lancaster on February 22, 1861, during his journey to Washington for his first Inauguration. James Buchanan was also welcomed back to his Lancaster home from this balcony on March 6, 1861. |
