| Michelson and Chauvenet Halls — the newest academic buildings in the Naval Academy. Michelson Hall was named for Albert Michelson, Academy graduate who was the first American to win the Nobel Prize. His experiments leading to the first accurate measurement of the speed of light were conducted on this site. Chauvenet Hall is named for William Chauvenet who was the first professor of mathematics and navigation at the Academy when it was founded in 1845. |
