Old Whaling Try-Pot at The Tides, Bodega Bay
Additional Details:
| A large metal whaling pot, or try-pot, used on whaling vessels to render whale oil. The sign explains that these pots were placed on sand with fires built underneath to 'try out' the oil. This particular kettle was left ashore in Oregon approximately a hundred years ago and is now displayed at The Tides in Bodega Bay, California. It is noted as one of only two such relics in good condition, the other being in a museum on the Atlantic Coast. |
