General Robert E. Lee, C. S. A. General Ulysses S. Grant, U. S. A. Both fought valiantly for the causes they believed in. The major battles that they opposed each other were: "Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse, Cold Harbor, The siege of Petersburg, Appomattox Courthouse". Lee's surrender to Grant, at Appomattox, brought an end to the terrible fighting in Virginia of the Civil War.
