Additional Details:
Founded in 1731 as a parish church, San Fernando Cathedral has been the center of many historical events. Its bell warned early villagers of Indian attacks. Santa Anna used its tower as an observation post. Here Col. Johnson raised the flag of victory after his Texans recaptured the city and under its stone floor rest the ashes of the Alamo heroes. Visited by thousands yearly, it is a most tangible symbol of San Antonio's heroic past.
