Ruins of Millwood, Home of General Wade Hampton

| Five miles east of Columbia on the Garner's Ferry road stand the ruins of Millwood, where General Wade Hampton maintained an estate typical of the old South. Nothing is left of the house but the columns shown in the illustration, but the remains of many outhouses and smaller buildings, and the beautifully laid out grounds will give the visitor an idea of the charm of an old Southern Plantation in ante-bellum days. To reach Millwood going from Columbia, turn to the left at the top of the hill after passing over Gill Creek bridge on the Garner's Ferry road. |
