Faneuil Hall, 'The Cradle of Liberty,' was a gift of Peter Faneuil, built in 1742, burned in 1761 and rebuilt in 1763. It was a focus of the Revolutionary movement in Boston and the colonies. The Hall of today dates from 1805, when it was enlarged and raised one story. The Hall is never rented, but is used for important meetings of citizens free of any charge.
