| Seneca Lake is the most unusual of all the Finger Lakes. It is nearly 40 miles long and from 1 to 5 miles wide. It is fed by springs and in many places is more than 600 ft. deep. From a depth of 200 feet to the bottom it maintains an average temperature of 7 degrees above freezing the year 'round. It has been known to freeze over but 4 times, the last time in 1912. It is noted for its marvelous colorings and is often compared by travelers to the Mediterranean. |
