Additional Details:
Titled "Fighters Accept The Challenge," the image depicts RAF pilots running across a grass airfield towards a line of Hawker Hurricane fighter planes. The reverse caption identifies the scene as pilots at a Royal Air Force fighter aerodrome in France racing to their machines as enemy aircraft are reported. The card bears a postmark from August 21, 1940, and a handwritten message referencing the war: "one day we shall see the end of the Jerry planes. They get some terrible hidings when they come over."
