Arizona's newest and most significant oil field — Dineh bi Keyah — located in the rugged Chuska Mountain area of the Navajo Indian Reservation, was discovered by Kerr-McGee Corporation in 1967. A commercial oil field had never before been found in a Miocene igneous sill, yet that's where Kerr-McGee geologists hit prolific pay zone.
