| Shortly after the quake fires broke out in nearly every part of the city, caused by fallen electric lines, overturned stoves in restaurants or coal oil lamps upsetting. It was hoped to contain the fire at 8th and Market, but a fire at Hayes and Gough destroyed the City Hall and swept through the Mission district. |
