The Cuillins, Isle of Skye, Scotland
Additional Details:
| SKYE is most famous for its range of jagged black mountains known as the Cuillins or Coolins. The island is deeply indented by sea lochs at many points and these are dominated by the serrated tops of the Cuillins. The main ridges, sometimes known as the Black Cuillins in order to distinguish them from the much less impressive Red Cuillins, extend in an irregular semi-circle for about six miles. They are composed of black gabbro, a rock particularly suited for climbing. |
