| This gateway, rebuilt in 1882, allowed vehicles to pass to and from the travelled road. The bowling green extends from the gate nearly to the Mansion. Many old trees bordering the original driveway were planted by Washington or his guests. Near the butler's house is a large magnolia tree planted by Washington in 1799. |
