Additional Details:
Erected on the spot where Pedro Menendez de Ailles landed in 1565. Here the first Holy Mass was celebrated; scene of martyrdom of Father Rodriquez and a Franciscan Brother during Indian Revolt, 1597. Abandoned during border raids from Georgia. Rebuilt by Bishop Verot in 1873; blown down by a storm a year later. Erected by Bishop Curley in 1918 and restored and furnished as a Chapel by Mrs. Gen'l Hardin, in memory of Gen'l Martin D. Hardin in 1925.
