| Chateau de Ramezay on Jacques Cartier Square was built 1705 by Claude de Ramezay, governor of Montreal. It was later headquarters of La Compagnie des Indes and residence of the English governors. When the American Revolutionists invaded Montreal in 1775 Benjamin Franklin had his headquarters here in his attempt to win over the French of Quebec to their cause. It is now an historical museum. |
