The Cross on Mount Royal commemorates a Cross there by Jacques Cartier July 27, 1534, and one by Paul Chomedy de Maisonneuve Jan. 6, 1643. The cross was built in 1924. $98,000 being raised and paid for by the efforts of school children and students. It is 26 tons, is 100 ft. high, width of arms 30 ft. at top the Cross is 6 ft. square and the observatory at the top is 828 ft. above the St. Lawrence. It is illuminated at night.
