Lesser Lights, Washington's Bed Chamber Clock, Hour Glass
Additional Details:
| These artifacts belonged to Alexandria Washington Lodge, No. 22, A. F. & A. M. The Lesser Lights and original hour glass were used at the laying of the cornerstone of the National Capitol in 1793 and at Washington's funeral in 1799. The clock was in General Washington's bed chamber when he died. Doctor Elisha C. Dick stopped the timepiece at 10:20 P.M., the exact time of his death. Martha Washington presented it to the Lodge. A pendulum or weight with severed cord is shown to the left of the clock. |
