Additional Details:
Colton Hall was erected by Rev. Walter Colton, Mayor of Monterey, 1846 to 1849. In this imposing two-story structure the children of the town went to school, and here the first constitution of California was drafted in September and October of 1849. The building, now owned by the city, is used for various public purposes.
