| Hundreds of prehistoric ruins. Wupatki, The Citadel, Wukoki, and Crack-in-Rock are best known. In size the ruins run from single-roomed pit houses to Wupatki Pueblo which has more than 100 rooms. The greatest population in area was after period when Sunset Crater erupted. Mulch of cinders on the ground made intensive maize agriculture possible. Ranger Service. |
