Catherine von Bora, Luther's 'my lord Katie,' deserted her Saxon convent in 1523 and went to Wittenberg. In 1525 she and Luther were married. The bride was twenty-six, the groom was forty-two. A model housewife, she relieved her busy husband of all material cares and left him free to give himself entirely to his labors for the Church.
