Additional Details:
The General Assembly authorized the construction of a new Statehouse at Springfield, Illinois February 25, 1868. Work was begun the same year and the Cornerstone was laid October 5, 1868. The Legislature convened in the building for the first time in 1877. The building was not entirely completed until 1888.
