Covington Cincinnati Suspension Bridge at Dusk
Additional Details:
| Perhaps this is the same image John Roebling pictured in his mind when he thought of the completed Covington Cincinnati Suspension Bridge. This view taken from the south tower shows the sweeping strength of the suspension cables and vertical stays that Roebling boldly used to support the bridge which spans with engineering confidence an overall 2,252 feet. Upon its opening in 1867 it was the longest bridge in the world and set the trend in building and design for all the great suspension bridges throughout the world. In fact, this bridge was the prototype for the famed Brooklyn Bridge. |
