Sacramento Pit, 1,700 ft. by 1,200 ft., an area of 35 acres, and 435 ft. below the present lookout point. In 1917 the site of this pit was Sacramento Hill whose top was 740 ft. above the present bottom of the pit. Open pit mining was practiced here between 1917 and 1929; from then until 1931 ore was removed by caving through Glory Holes. In all, 20,843,666 tons of ore were removed.
