| Sherman Avenue, Coeur d'Alene's main street, was named for General William Tecumseh Sherman, who was so delighted with the surroundings of this section of North Idaho, he successfully recommended that the Fort Sherman Military Post be established here in 1879. Coeur d'Alene's present "White Way" attests to its growth and modernization. |
