Additional Details:
This locomotive was completed at Swindon Works in 1905 to the design of G. J. Churchward. The class was the first of the 2-8-0 type in Britain, and, apart from superheating, the basic design underwent few alterations during the following half-century, during which they formed the backbone of the freight motive power on the Great Western Railway, and later on the Western Region of British Railways. No. 2818 was withdrawn from service in 1962, and is now on display at the National Railway Museum, York, through the courtesy of Bristol City Museum.
