| Lexington was the beginning of the Revolutionary War, the surrender of Burgoyne the turning point. The French alliance gave Americans a confidence to valiantly hold out at Valley Forge. This led to the strengthening of the will of the American forces. Under the leadership of Washington with the help of DeGrasse, Lafayette, Rochambeau, and seven thousand French soldiers, Lord Cornwallis was forced to surrender on October 19, 1781 at Yorktown. It was glorious news when the British were forced to lay down their arms to the tune of 'The World Turned Upside Down.' |
