This excited cat is climbing on back of a large chair, eager to get at a caged bird. She appears in a family corner, at top of a scene of a group of children. They are arranged formally, as for a photograph, but the artist let Pussy & get with the act to liven things up. So Puss became more important than the 4 brothers & sisters. Of course she won't get the bird, with all these people about, but one feels that she is about to crash down the cage. Hogarth probably enjoyed everyday scenes from real life more than doing portraits.
