Additional Details:
THE SOUTH WEST VIEW, showing the Norman Eastern end of the Cathedral and the Gothic Nave, is that first seen by visitors to the mother church of the Anglican Communion as they come through the Christ-church gateway. The tomb of St. Thomas Becket, murdered in the Cathedral in 1170, and later his shrine in the Trinity Chapel, drew pilgrims from all over the world until 1538, when the shrine was destroyed by order of Henry VIII.
