Bede, born in 673 A.D., entered a monastery at Monkwearmouth at age seven, later moving to Jarrow. He grew to manhood studying Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, focusing on the Bible. Ordained deacon in his 19th year and priest in his 30th, Bede spent his life writing and translating, producing works on natural history, spelling, verse, and his most famous, "The Church History of the English People." He died in 735, buried at Jarrow with St. Cuthbert. In 1370, Bede's relics were placed in a tomb in Durham Cathedral's Galilee Chapel.
