| The State Dining Room was added onto the Castle by the first Earl in the mid-eighteenth century. In style it is very similar to the seventeenth century Gothic work done by earlier members of the family. Over the marble Adam fireplace are two superb lions painted from life by Rubens. On the far wall is Van Dyck's splendid equestrian portrait of King Charles I. |
