On the riverfront where the original town of St. Louis was located is the oldest Cathedral west of the Mississippi. Built in the early 1800's the church was the Basilica of St. Louis King of France. A museum on the west side of the church contains the tomb of the first Bishop of St. Louis, the original church bell, photographs, paintings, and many interesting items of the past. Open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, on the riverfront.
