| St. Mary's is the finest example in Ireland of the Gothic revival style. Designed by Augustus Welby Pugin. Foundations laid 1842. Work discontinued from 1848 to 1853 because of Famine. Consecrated 22nd August 1855. Length extended and spire added 1908 to 1912. Completely renovated and adapted for new liturgy 1972 and 1973. |
