Hotel Leger, Mokelumne Hill, California
Additional Details:
| A group of miners found gold along the banks of the Mokelumne River in 1848, and one of them opened a trading post on the hill above. Within a few years this became a roaring gold-camp with frequent robberies and murders. It is now a quiet and peaceful little Mother Lode town with many historic buildings remaining. Among them is the Hotel Leger, restored, and still in use. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1874, at which time the present structure was built. |
